In this video, BENCHMARQUE CEO Marlowe Bennett discusses the ins and outs of engaging a hospitality recruitment agency.
In the hospitality industry, your staff are the face of your business. The face of your business can either add to your reputation, or severely damage it. So if you're looking to outsource the hiring for your hospitality business, it's important that you find an outsourcing agency that specialises in the market.
Here are the five most important things to consider when engaging with a hospitality recruitment agency.
1. Niche experience
Make sure the agency has experience in providing staff in your specific discipline. For example, an agency that employs people for catering or events may have little or no experience finding a candidate for a restaurant or a small bar.
Employers that work in these fields usually have very different motivations, technical skills, and availability.
2. Active candidate pool
A generalist agency might say they can provide quality hospitality staff. But because they don't specialise in it, they probably also won't have the bank of candidates to choose from.
This usually takes a long time to fill open roles.
3. Questions they ask
If an agency doesn't ask you enough questions, be wary. Finding a perfect candidate is in the details, so expect a reputable hospitality employer to ask for them.
4. What they value in candidates
Specific skills might be important for your vacancies, but equally important will be the personality traits of the candidates. You can tell a lot about a recruitment company by what they attract and value in their candidates which should be things like passion, determination, and honesty.
5. Avoid going for the cheapest option
As the saying goes, if you pay peanuts you should expect monkeys. Price has never been more of a focus and equally, talent has never been so short. But it's important to realise there's a cost to sourcing quality talent and labour especially in the hospitality industry.
